Day 9
Welcome to Super Saturday!! 25 medals have been awarded today, so let's dive right in.

Today's Medal Winning Events:
Women's 100m: In one of the highly anticipated events of the Track and Field competition, the fastest women in the world ran the 100m.  Defending champ, Jamaica's Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, won the Gold again over Carmelita Jones of the US who took the Silver, and Veronica Campbell-Brown also of Jamaica, who took the Bronze.



Men's 20km Race Walk: China's Ding Chen won the Gold, Guatemala's Erick Barrondo won the Silver, and the Bronze went to Zhen Wang, also of China.

Women's Discus Throw: Croatia's Sandra Perkovic won the Gold with a throw of 226' 8 7/8".  Darya Pishchalnikova of Russia took the Silver.  Yanfeng Li of China took the Bronze.




Men's Long Jump: Great Britain picked up another Gold with Greg Rutherford picking up the Gold in this event. Mitchell Watt of Australia picked up the Silver and Will Claye of the US picked up the Bronze.






Men's 10,000m: Yet another Gold for Team GB as Mohamed Farah picks up the Gold. Galen Rupp of the US won the Silver and Tariku Bekele of Ethiopia won the Bronze.


Women's Heptathalon: Britain's Darling, Jessica Ennis, won the Gold in this event today in front of a massive home town crowd.  Germany's Lilli Schwarzkopf won Silver, and Tatyana Chernova of Russia won the Bronze.


Women's Doubles: China's Pair Qing Tian and Yunlei Zhao won the Gold medal over Japan's Reika Kakiiwa and Mizuki Fujii, who picked up the Silver. Valeria Sorokina and Nina Vislova of Russia won their match and picked up the Bronze.

Women's Single: China went 1-2 with Xuerui Li and Yihan Wang picking up the Gold and Silver respectively.  Saina Nehwal of India won the Bronze.


Women's Pursuit: Yet another Gold for Great Britain today in a golden day for the home country. Laura Trott, Joanna Rowsell, and Dani King won the event.  Team USA's Dotsie Bausch, Sarah Hammer, and Lauren Tamayo picked up the Silver and the Canadian's Jasmin Glaesser, Gillian Carleton, and Tara Whitten won the Bronze.




Women's Team Epee: China's Na Li, Xiaojuan Luo, and Yujie Sun won the Gold in this event, Korea's Injeong Choi, Hyojung Jung and A Lam Shin (The wronged fencer from the Individual round) won the Silver, and Susannah Scanlan, Courtney Hurley, and Maya Lawrence of the US won the Bronze.



Women's Trampoline: Canada's Rosannagh Maclennan won the Gold, China picked up Silver and Bronze with Shanshan Huang and Wenna He taking the two medals.

Women's Single Sculls: Czech Republic's Miroslava Knapkova wins the Gold, Fie Udby Erichsen of Denmark won the Silver, and Kim Crow of Australia won the Bronze.

Men's Lightweight Double Sculls: Denmark's pair Rasmus Quist and Mads Rasmussen won the Gold, Zac Purchase and Mark Hunter of Great Britain won the Silver, and Peter Taylor and Storm Uru of New Zealand won the Bronze.

Women's Lightweight Double Sculls: Another Gold for Great Britain. Katherine Copeland and Sophie Hosking won the race. China's Wenyi Huang and Dongxiang Xu won the Silver.  Greece's Alexandra Tsiavou and Christina Giazitzidou won the Bronze.




 Men's Four Without Coxswain: Great Britain won another rowing medal in this event. Team Australia won Silver, and Team USA won Bronze.




Women's 50m Standard Rifle: USA's Jamie Lynn Gray won the Gold, Serbia's Ivana Maksimovic won the Silver, and Czech Republic's Adela Sykorova won the Bronze.


Women's Trap: Italy's Jessica Rossi won Gold, Slovakia's Zuzana Stefecekova won Silver, and Delphine Reau won Bronze.


Women's 50m Freestyle: Ranomi Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands picked up another medal and this time its Gold.  Aliaksandra Herasimenia of Belarus won Silver and Marlenn Veldhuis also of the Netherlands won Bronze.

Men's 1500m Freestyle: As expected, Yang Sun of China won Gold, Ryan Cochrane of Canada won Silver, and Oussama Mellouli of Tunisia won Bronze.

Women's 4x100m Medley Relay: In the final women's race of these Games, USA won gold with Missy Franklin, Rebecca Soni, Dana Vollmer, and Allison Schmitt closing out the ladies' meet. Australia won Silver and Japan won Bronze.

Men's 4x100m Medley Relay: In the final men's race of these Games, we were able to watch history as Michael Phelps swam his final competitive race.  His teammates Matt Grevers, Brendan Hansen, and Nathan Adrian were able to help Phelps bring home a final gold to bring his total medal count to 22.  Congrats to Michael Phelps and his family and his dedicated coach Bob Bowman.  Enjoy retirement!  Japan won the Silver, and Australia won the Bronze.




Women's Singles: Serena Williams won a decisive victory over Maria Sharapova, who is representing Russia (She's not Russian).  Victoria Azarenka of Belarus won the Bronze.



Men's Doubles: Unsurprisingly, the dominant American men's doubles team of Bryan and Bryan won the Gold over the French team of Michael Llodra and Jo-Wilfred Tsonga. David Ferre and Feliciano Lopez picked up the Bronze medal for Spain.



Women's Triathalon: Switzerland's Nicola Spirig won the Gold in a photo finish against Sweden's Lisa Norden.  Erin Densham of Australia picked up the Bronze.



Men's 85-94 kg: Kazahkstan picked up another Gold with Ilya Ilya winning the Gold. Alexandr Ivanov of Russia won the Silver and Anatoli Ciricu of Moldova won the Bronze.
