Day 7: Part 2

Day 7: Part 2

Yay! That was so exciting to actually be able to watch some of the gymnastics LIVE! I am going to put the Gymnastics results at the end of this post, so if you don't want to know yet, please stop before the end.

In a hilarious bit of Olympics news, a newspaper in Australia put a list of the medal count with South Korea and North Korea being referred to respectively as 'Nice Korea' and 'Naughty Korea'.  They are getting a lot of flak for it, but I personally think its funny.

Today's Medal Events:
SPOILER ALERTS ON SWIMMING (In case you want to watch it in Primetime)

Men's 200m Backstroke: In a surprise upset, Tyler Clary takes the Gold after Ryan Lochte fades in the final 50 meters.  Lochte faded to 3rd behind Japan's Kosuke Irie

Women's 200m Breaststroke: After achieving a World Record in the Semis, Rebecca Soni set another one here in the Final swimming under 2:20 at 2:19.59 and claims the Gold. Japan's Satomi Suzuki won the Silver and Russia's Iuliia Efimova won the Bronze.

Men's 200m Individual Medley: Michael Phelps claims his 20th medal and 16th Gold by winning this event for the 3rd time in a row.  The results were as expected with Ryan Lochte taking the Silver and Laszlo Czeh of Hungary taking the Bronze. Michael Phelps seemed to be taking it all in as he stood on the medal podium in what is likely his last Gold medal race.

Women's 100m Freestyle:  The American women got shut out of this event. Ranomi Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands won the Gold, Aliaksandra Herasimenia of Belarus won the Silver, and Yi Tang of China won the Bronze.

Women's Individual 70m: Korea picked up another Gold with Bo Bae Ki taking the medal, Aida Roman of Mexico took the Silver, and Mariana Avitia also of Mexico took the Bronze.

Mens Canoe Double: Great Britain picked up another Gold today with the pair of Tim Baillie and Etienne Stott winning this event.  They also took the Silver here with David Florence and Richard Hounslow taking the second place.  Brothers Pavof and Peter Hochschorner of Slovakia took the Bronze.

Women's Canoe Single: Emily Fer of France won the Gold, Jessica Fox of Australia won the Silver, and Maialen Chourraut of Spain won the Bronze.

Women's Sprint: Team GB was disqualified in this event, which they were favored to win, due to an illegal exchange.  Germany took the Gold, China took the Silver, and Australia took the Bronze.

Men's Team Sprint: Great Britain won another Gold here with this event in the velodrome.  Sir Chris Hoy, popular Scottish cyclist, Philip Hindes, and Jason Kenny made up that team. Team France won the Silver, and Team Germany won the Bronze.

Women's Individual All-Around: Gabby Douglas holds off the Russians to win the Gold Medal and I actually got to watch it live.  Victoria Komova who won the Silver, was devastated that she did not win the Gold.  It was so exciting to watch the 3rd American woman in a row win the All-Around, and to have the wonderfully adorable and lovable Gabby Douglas win it was especially sweet.  Sadly, Aly Raisman ended in a tie for the Bronze with Aliya Mustafina and the new tie breaker meant that she did not recieve the medal.

Ok, I unfortunately have to go to work now, so the rest of the results will have to come later.
